What we love about this retreat:
Our newest property is in Door County, located just one block from the famous Port De Mortes (or “Death’s Door” on the tip of the peninsula). We’re right off the famous curvy road on Highway 42 that landscape architect Jens Jensen designed to help people slow down and take in the scenery. It’s truly a beautiful scenic route year-round for photos—and to simply let yourself begin to unwind in nature on your way to your getaway. We’ve renovated and redesigned our traditional log cabin with up-to-date conveniences and finishes, while still holding on tight to some of its original charm.
Nestled cozily in the woods, we went with a vintage sports theme when designing and decorating this home. It’s equipped with kids’ and adult games, a projector for movie night, hammocks in the private yard, a library, and a wood-burning fireplace for all of your hygge and playful vacation dreams come true. Grab a book from our stocked lofted library and get lost for a while in a faraway story.
You’ll find two bedrooms complete with queen-sized beds, plus a loft with two twin beds perfect for kiddos. Because we often travel with our little ones and know the struggle of bringing along all their gear, we also supply an air mattress, pack-n-play, high chair, and kids’ toys and games for those traveling with children or extra family members!
We especially love sitting and drinking coffee while watching the passing wildlife… We see deer, squirrel, and tons of birds right from the cabin!
On clear nights, you can’t even count the amount of shooting stars you will see. It feels really magical just being out here, enjoying nature and slowing down for a short time. We have reclining outdoor chairs that guests can use to kick back and watch nightly shows in the sky. Feel free to start a fire, make smores, and soak up the fresh air and wildlife to be seen. The home is also in close proximity to Newport Park, a dark sky park that’s another perfect place for stargazing. Newport’s wilderness experience boasts 2,300 acres of forest, 11 miles of shoreline, and 30 miles of hiking trails.
This is the perfect place to get away from it all, while also being close enough to many of the fun, bustling towns and activities that Door County has to offer.
Neighborhood Description:
Enjoy all that Door County has to offer with this convenient and breathtaking location at the tip of the “thumb” of the peninsula. We are off the beaten path to allow time to reflect, relax and connect, but close enough to all of Door County’s action—which we believe is the best of both worlds. Located in a quiet and private neighborhood, just a block’s distance from Port De Mortes, you can easily walk to the shore to enjoy water sports and beach picnics in the warmer months (we even provide a picnic basket, blanket, and beach towels for your enjoyment), or take a bike ride or a walk in the woods. Door County is a beautiful place to visit year-round with plenty to see and do—check out some of our favorite recommendations below!
Since we are so close to the tip of the peninsula, guests can get excited to plan for the adventures and activities you want to do while visiting as you drive through Egg Harbor, Fish Creek, Bailey’s Harbor, Ephraim and Sister Bay to get to the cabin. We are set away from all of the action so that guests can truly embrace the hygge feeling of nature at our log cabin in the woods, but many towns are an easy 15 to 30 minute drive away. We personally think it’s the perfect way to get away. We’re 15 minutes from Piggly Wiggly to stock up on groceries, so be sure to stop there or at another store along the way if you expect to arrive later in the day. We highly recommend grabbing a bottle of wine and throwing together a charcuterie board as you settle in on your first night and plan for some fun!
